CRB Disclosures through England Netball – Updated September 2011
England Netball is firmly committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment for all young people to play netball. England Netball has introduced CRB checks as part of a process of safer recruitment of staff and volunteers working with young people (ie under the age of 18 years) in the sport.
The CRB disclosure system is managed through our partners TMG CRB and is available to affiliated members of England Netball.
You have a choice to complete an online application form or a paper based application form. Please see below for details.
The online application is a more efficient and cost effective way of obtaining an enhanced CRB disclosure through England Netball.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a CRB check?
CRB stands for "Criminal Records Bureau". England Netball uses a type of check called an "Enhanced Disclosure". An Enhanced Disclosure is a printed record containing information from the Police National Computer, local Police intelligence and a check of Government lists of those people banned from working with children and young people.
What is an Umbrella Body
TMG CRB is an Umbrella Body for the Criminal Records Bureau (England and Wales) and Disclosure Scotland dedicated to providing England Netball with a fast, reliable service. You can contact TMG CRB on 0115 969 4606 for advice.
Why do people working in Netball need to have a check?
The check allows England Netball to identify those people who are banned from working with children and young people, and to subsequently ensure that they are not involved in junior netball.
The check also allows England Netball to identify those with a history who may pose a potential risk to children, and to make responsible decisions about whether those people should be involved in junior netball.
Does everyone working in Netball need to be checked?
No. An enhanced disclosure is not required for all roles in netball, and the role title a person holds does not necessarily indicate whether or not they are eligible for a check. To require a check, in general the type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of children or in other words working in ‘regulated activity’.
Examples include:
Coaches
Junior League Umpires
Assistant Coaches
Team Managers
First Aider/ Physiotherapist
Club or League Safeguarding (Welfare) Officer
What if I do more than one role?
You will only need one check regardless of the number of roles you do in netball. Choose the role that you spend most time on.
What happens if there is something on the disclosure?
England Netball will be notified and its Case Management Group will determine whether or not the applicant is deemed appropriate to work with children and young people in netball. Each disclosure is considered on a case by case basis. If the person is banned from working with children and young people in netball the relevant parties will be informed of the ban but not the reasons for it.
Who will see my disclosure?
For paper based applications a disclosure certificate will be sent to your home address and England Netball may see a copy of the disclosure. For an online application you will only receive a certificate if you have content on your disclosure, this will also be copied to England Netball.
If your CRB is clear of information a record will be kept stating that you have completed the process and that you are allowed to continue working with England Netball. You will also receive a letter from England Netball confirming you may continue working in netball.
You do not need to show your disclosure to anyone else, including your club, county or regional personnel, who are not at liberty to ask to see it, you may though wish to show your letter from England Netball.
What if I am a coach or official but I am under 18 myself - do I still need a CRB check?
Please Click Here for some guidance on CRB Checks for young coaches and umpires. Following a read through of the guidance, Click Here for the Self Disclosure Form.
I already have a check from another organisation; do I really need another one?
Yes. Unfortunately the check is not portable from one job or organisation to another and therefore if you are working in netball you will need to have an England Netball check. The information received by the employer when a CRB check is requested is not generally shared between organisations therefore you must have your check done through England Netball to work within netball. This system also ensures that decisions taken to employ someone in netball (volunteer or paid) are all assessed the same through the same system and to the same criteria (ie risk assessed for netball by those working within netball)
Who pays for my CRB Check?
All charges must be paid by you when the form is submitted. Please see table below for fees for volunteers and non volunteers. Forms will not be processed without payment.
Where can I get more information?
