These are exciting times for England Netball following Sport England`s confirmation that they will invest £25.3m in the sport over the next four years representing a 35% increase on their 2009/13 Whole Sport Plan investment.
This is a brilliant achievement for England’s largest female team sport. The scale of Sport England investment in Netball reflects their high level of confidence in the NGB`s ability to grow and sustain participation and nurture talented athletes.
Paul Clark, Chief Executive of England Netball, is delighted; he said “This is brilliant news. Our success has been as a result of a new innovative approach we have adopted that puts the netballer at the centre of everything we do. We have started to develop different initiatives and products that fit with what players want, whether they are returning to the sport or looking to be England players of the future. We know that it is important that playing netball fits with players lifestyles so that netball is a sport for life!
"The introduction of our Back to Netball initiative over the last 4 years has significantly contributed to the amazing 34% increase in netball participation over this period. The Sport England Funding will allow us to continue to develop new exciting initiatives designed to provide netball in the way players want and raise the profile of netball and women’s’ sport.”
He concluded “Sport England`s investment in Netball sends a strong message about the importance and credibility of women`s sport in general and netball in particular. I hope it will act as a catalyst for increased commercial investment and media coverage of our sport.”
