What they say: “The Downs have moved up to Premier 1 division and we aim this year to stay up and reach a top three position. We have a number of returning Downs players like Hannah Reid and Katy Holland; as well as new players such as Adele Modeste, Rhianne McHale and Ally Harding. Amy Flanagan is a young defence player who came to us from the Team South NTL Squad. Currently only 17, she hit the court for us throughout last season, is maturing and is ready for some tough competition this year. We also have our existing squad of players such as Mel Portman, Lucy Convey, Lorraine Betsy, Katy Pell, Emma Hasleden and Becky McCather, who worked very hard last season and showed real commitment to get us back up to the top division. The squad have been raising their game over the summer with the focus on fitness and strength, ready for the long journey ahead.”

Prediction: A fantastic season saw The Downs dominate in Premier League 2, losing two games all season. The signings of Modeste, McHale and Harding should add much-needed experience to the squad and could help develop the younger players such as Flanagan. A top three spot is the aim but mid-table safety would be seen as a successful season.
