Charnwood, Team Jets, TFC and YWCA Bury secure spot in Premier League 3

Charnwood, Team Jets, TFC and YWCA Bury will compete in the 2018/19 Premier League 3 after triumphing at the play-offs.

A total of 11 teams headed to Redbridge Leisure Centre in Essex for two days of incredible action.

Four places were up for grabs – due to Chester’s expulsion from Premier League 2 – as the nine regional league winners joined Team Jets and TFC who finished in the final two positions during the regular season.

All of the teams were randomly drawn into four groups for Saturday’s fixtures which determined seedings for the second and decisive day of competition.

Eagles (Pool A), YWCA Bury (Pool B) and Charnwood (Pool C) won both their matches with Thoroughbreds (Pool D) beating Parkside to top their respective pools at the end of the first day.

The groups were then rejigged according to the finishing positions of the teams on Day 1 (A1 + B2 + C3, etc.).

North-West regional winners, YWCA Bury, were the first side to confirm their place in next year’s Premier League by maintaining their 100% record for the weekend with a comfortable 52-35 victory over Exeter on Sunday.

Team Jets were fighting to avoid back-to-back relegations after finishing in 10th in Premier League 2 in 2016/17 and managed to retain their place with a 51-39 win against Thoroughbreds and then a closely-fought 46-38 victory over Hi-Tech on the second day.

Having been crowned East Midlands regional winners in 2016/17, TFC had struggled with the step up to the Premier League but a narrow 44-40 victory against Eagles and a 57-34 triumph over Riverside saw them avoid relegation.

Charnwood celebrated an immediate return to Premier League 3 having suffered relegation in 2016/17. They sailed through the play-offs unbeaten with final day wins against Poly NC (68-41) and Parkside (68-30).

England Netball would like to thank all of the players, coaches, support staff, umpires, officials, volunteers and spectators for a great weekend of action.
