Meet the England Netball Coaching and Support Team for the National Squad

Biography

Since receiving 81 international caps for her country, including bronze medals at both the Commonwealth and World Cup, the former shooter has excelled in her coaching role.

Neville moved from Head Coach at NSL side Team Northumbria to Manchester Thunder in 2011, where she guided the team to become NSL Champions in 2014 after a thrilling final.

Colette Thomson
Assistant Coach

Biography

Colette was part of the National coaching set up which saw a silver medal gained at the World Youth Championships in 2005 and a silver medal at the World Netball Series in Liverpool in November 2010, only losing to New Zealand in the final on an amazing last day of competition.

Twelve months on, and Thomson was also part of the set up that delivered the gold medal at the 2011 World Netball Series, and gaining retribution against the Silver Ferns for what had occurred the year before. Colette has continued to be involved in coaching the England Squad through Commonwealth Games in 2014 and Netball World Cup 2015.

Colette was honoured in the Queens list of MBE’s in 2015 and has been recognised by Sports Coach UK, winning the Female Coach of the Year award. Both as a player and now a Coach, Colette Thomson has displayed a knowledge, determination and passion for the game which is hugely respected by her peers.

Sarah Gandon
Performance Operations Manager (on maternity leave)

Biography

Sarah started at England Netball as Performance Operations Manager in July 2013, a role which splits her time between team Management of the senior and U21/ development squads and operational management of NSL.

She has acted as Team Leader for both the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Netball World Cup 2015, managed logistics for World Youth Championships 2013 alongside arranging all tours and preparation camps for England Senior and U21s squads.

Previously, Sarah worked for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and is an active volunteer in netball and other sports. She has team managed representative netball squads since 2006.

Ros Cooke
Physiotherapist

Biography

Ros Cooke is currently the Lead Physiotherapist for England Netball employed by the English Institute of Sport. With previous international sports physio experience in hockey, and at multi-sport (World University Games, Commonwealth Games) events Ros brings a wealth of experience to her role as soft tissue techniques tutor for ACPSEM.

Ros was awarded an MSc in Sports Injury Rehablitation from The University of Salford in 2014. Her research project on ACL is a topic close to her heart and is an area of special clinical interest. 

Ros is a keen triathlete, watch out for her at a race near you. 

 

Stephanie Shreeve
Performance Nutritionist

Biography

Stef started working with England Netball as a Performance Nutritionist in 2014, working predominately with the Senior Squad. Alongside working with England Netball Stef also supports the GB Para-Swimming squad.

Previous to her work with England Netball, Stef worked as a Dietetic Assistant in the NHS, working within a weight management service in Knowsley, Merseyside.

Edward Baker
S&C Coach

Biography

Edward joined England Netball in October 2015 in an interim role but was delighted to be offered a full time role in April 2016. Edward works within the English Institute of Sport as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with GB Wheelchair Rugby and now England Netball.

He has previously worked with England Women’s Rugby, Football, Squash and Athletics. Edward was also the Hertfordshire Mavericks S&C coach for the 2012-13 season and has worked with regional Netball teams since 2011. Edward is a competitive power lifter with a keen interest in developing strength and power in team sports.

Dr Jim Kerrs
Chief Medical Officer

Biography

Jim has worked as the Team Doctor for England Netball since January 2016. He is currently based at the English Institute of Sport in Manchester and is on the NHS Sport & Exercise Medicine speciality training programme, due to qualify as a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine in August 2016. He also works as the Team Doctor for the British Para-swimming team.

Helen Alfano
Performance Lifestyle Advisor

Biography

Helen started in a maternity cover role as Performance Lifestyle advisor with England Netball in March 2016. Her role involves providing personalised support for the performance athletes on programme. The support is designed to enable sporting and non-sporting lives to work together and complement each other, for the benefit of the individual and their sporting performance.

Helen has 9 years’ experience providing sport science based support in high performance sport. She has worked across various organisations including the British Paralympic Association, SportScotland Institute of Sport, National Governing Bodies and Professional Sports Teams. Helen’s experience includes supporting athletes in daily training, camps and competition environments including roles at key preparation camp and during tournaments at Worlds, Commonwealth and Olympic level.
