Vitality Netball World Cup 2019

All eyes are on Liverpool as the city prepares to host the Vitality Netball World Cup in 2019.

England, who scooped the bronze medal during the 2015 tournament, will be hoping for another stunning performance when the competition comes to its home country in four years’ time.

Presentations during the close of the event held in Sydney in August included the handover of the INF flag from the Honourable Molly Rhone, President of the INF, to Cheryl Danson OBE, chair of England Netball, as the next host of the Netball World Cup.

The global event will take place in July at the city’s ACC Liverpool. This will be the first time the event has taken place across one site.

Cheryl Danson, Chairman of England Netball, said: “The recent Netball World Cup held in Sydney was an incredibly exciting event and I was honoured to receive the INF Netball World Cup flag at the closing ceremony, on behalf of England Netball and its’ partners. We now embark on our four year programme to host an outstanding event which will showcase our sport in Liverpool in 2019.

“I am confident that together we will deliver a Netball World Cup that will be spectacular.”

Tim Banfield, commercial director of The ACC Liverpool Group, said: “The Netball World Cup 2015 was a great success and our congratulations go to all teams who took part, particularly Australia, New Zealand and England.

“The handover of the flag was a significant moment for all organisations involved as it marked the next stage of this incredible journey as we prepare to host the next World Cup.

“We are honoured to now take on the mantle as we look to welcome this fantastic sporting event in four years’ time.”

England Netball, Liverpool City Council, UK Sport and ACC Liverpool were successful in a bid submitted to the INF to host the prestigious competition. It is just the third time that England has hosted it in its 56-year history and the first time the showpiece has been held in the North West of England.

Liverpool hosted the FastNet tournament in 2010 and 2011 and has a 10 year partnership with England Netball to build participation and grow the audience up to and beyond the event through a series of top internationals.

Netball Europe

The European association was originally established in 1989/90 from a development within the International Netball Federation (INF) which created five regions: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Today Netball Europe (NE) comprises nine full members: England, Gibraltar, Israel, Malta, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Wales with France, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Amsterdam as associate members of the organisation.

NE is run by a number of dedicated volunteer board members who bring to the table extensive knowledge and many, many years of experience in all aspects of netball as well as their great passion for our wonderful sport.

One of NE’s main objectives is to actively promote and encourage netball and to further its growth and development in the region.

In keeping with this aim, the Annual NE Championships (U17, U21 and Open) provide a performance environment and opportunity for participating members thus raising the profile of the game and supporting member countries in developing netball at all levels and for all age groups.

The Championships take place in venues across Europe on a rotational basis. In order to provide more varied competition, countries from other regions have recently been invited to participate too.
