Jess Shaw

Bio

Jessica (Jess) Shaw was among the first group of players to be selected for the full-time Vitality Roses programme when it was launched in 2016.

The attacking midcourter was already starring for her country at youth level at this time and went on to win bronze with the England U21 team at the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana.

Shaw has a vast array of experience in the Netball Super League (NSL), having represented former franchise Yorkshire Jets, Loughborough Lightning, Team Bath, with whom she finished as runners-up in the 2021 league and secured victory in the domestic FAST5 competition, Severn Stars and Birmingham Panthers.

I want to go as far as I can with my netball. I want to be able to perform consistently, perform at that top level and be proud of how I am performing out there because then I think anything is possible.

Shaw’s performances earned her a call-up to Jess Thirlby’s Vitality Roses squad, where she travelled out to face Australia as an injury replacement player in September 2024 and took her chance with both hands.

Her mental resilience has been a key theme of her impressive return to form, with the 28-year-old also learning the power of a support network through the management of her diabetes.

A diagnosis aged just 13 threatened to throw her career off course, but Shaw has embraced her condition in recent years and found the positives of sharing her experiences.
