There can be very high demands placed on young athletes through netball, other sports, academic commitments, travel and family commitments. This can make it challenging to maintain a sustainable training and competition schedule placing athletes at an increased risk for overtraining, injury and/or burnout.
As part of the physical pillar, we aim to provide educational resources for athletes, coaches, school teachers and parents to help support an athlete’s journey through the player pathway. This page will provide resources and practical guidance around principals of athlete load management.

Through the planning and completion of a progressive and balanced training schedule, athletes can enhance their physical potential, reduce their risk of injury and increase their availability for training and games.
The resource below is designed to help athletes and parents to understand how to balance training, recovery and competition demands across different stages of development, while also considering the physical and mental demands placed on athletes.
It discusses what we mean when we talk about load and the key training recommendations to consider when planning training and competition schedules.
