Funding decision signals way forward for England Netball

Sport England have today announced that in their new cycle of funding, England Netball have been awarded £16.9 million over the next four years. We are pleased that Sport England have recognised the work and progress that has been made over the last funding cycle and have accepted our plans moving forward to continue the progress that is being made for women’s sport. Whilst we are grateful to have received this level of support, it has to be recognised that all governing bodies have suffered a significant cut in funding compared to the last cycle and sadly England Netball is no exception to this rule. This announcement represents a 33% reduction in funding compared to the 2013-17 funding cycle. We recognise that as a sport we must be more commercially aggressive in order to fill the financial gap that this announcement confirms. Fantastically attended events such as the near sell-out Quad Series in Liverpool and London coupled with the increased media exposure across Sky Sports and the BBC is a sign of our ambition. With the support of the Netball Family, we are confident that the sport will continue to prosper and that netball will remain in the strong position it finds itself in today.
