Amy Clinton commits her future to Manchester Thunder

Young England shooter Amy Clinton is the latest player to commit her future to Manchester Thunder.

The Roses u21 player, who recently won the Netball Europe title, becomes the sixth player confirmed in the Black and Yellows Superleague squad for the 2017 season.

Clinton enjoyed her debut season in the Superleague in 2016, making several appearances from the bench, including in the match against Yorkshire Jets at Manchester Arena.

Oldham-born Clinton, 19, is sure to be relishing this chance to prove her calibre and secure a starting place in the side.

Coach Karen Greig, who has worked with the shooter since she was 14, is delighted with how her player has developed since her Superleague bow.

Greig said: “I’m so pleased we have managed to secure Amy for the future, she had a taste of Superleague action last year and she has been developing into a top shooter each week.

“Amy has proved herself as a true team player and is always striving be the best on court.”

It’s been a busy netball summer for the a-level student, who was also part of the England u19 squad to tour Jamaica.

“Touring with her for the England U19 tour of Jamaica this summer proved to me that Amy is more than ready to step up and be a real threat for Thunder this season,” added Greig.

“The physicality of the game and how she coped and performed was super impressive, she backed this up with a practically flawless display at the recent U21 summer showdown.”

Clinton, who also plays at  Premier League level for Oldham, joins experienced defensive duo Kerry Almond, Emma Dovey, and young England defender Bea Skingsley, who has completed the move from Yorkshire Jets to team up with

Gabriella Marshall and Kathryn Turner complete the squad announced so far, with more names expected to be revealed over the coming days.
