Captain Agbeze calls for further improvement ahead of decider

Roses captain and Friday’s player of the match, Ama Agbeze, has called upon to continue their improvement after reflecting on their sides victory which levelled the Vitality Netball International Series.

England Netball’s Clare Steele caught up with Agbeze following her stand-out performance in Manchester.

Watching Friday’s game, it was a very different match to what we all saw on Tuesday. What did you and the team take away from the first clash?

“Tuesday was really disappointing, because I don’t think Jamaica were better than us. We were disappointed in ourselves because we didn’t perform how we knew we could.

So, I think coming in, we wanted to prove to everyone, and ourselves, that we do actually have fire and we are passionate and we do want to win.”

Focusing more on your performance on Friday, how was it marking Fowler-Reid?”

“Exhausting! [laughs] It was really, really difficult, tit-for-tat stuff. But, it was just about keeping on top of myself, pushing myself to keep going, and reminding myself that the game’s nearly over!”

What are you going to take from that game that you are going to bring to Sunday’s game?

‘I think, to be honest, we did a few things wrong. Obviously! So we need to go away and look at those. There are definitely a few things that need to be worked on for Sunday, but driving onto the ball is key- making sure we drive onto the ball, really strong every time.

I know we won, and that’s excellent. As a team we are happy, but there are things that we need to improve on- like me against Fowler-Reid, there were definitely more balls that I could have got, sometimes I was in the wrong position or not on the right angle, so there a definitely a few things I need to take away from tonight’s game ahead of Sunday, so we can hopefully extend our win and take the Series.”

England take on Jamaica in the final game of the three-match International Series this afternoon live on Sky Sports 3 and for the first time ever, streamed LIVE on Sky Sports Facebook page. So, there’s no excuse to miss today’s thrilling finale!
