Commonwealth Youth Games FAST5 netball gets underway

The 2023 Trinbago Commonwealth Youth Games, for athletes aged 14-18,  is taking place between the 4-11 August 2023, with the FAST5 netball competition being held from 8-10 August.

Trinbago 2023 will see more than 1,000 athletes and para athletes from 72 nations and territories participate in a total of seven sports – Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics and Para Athletics, Cycling (Road Race, Time Trial and Track) and Triathlon, as well as FAST5 Netball, Rugby Sevens and Beach Volleyball.

Competition format

Unlike the Commonwealth Games, where netball has been a fixture since 1998, this is the first time netball will feature in the Commonwealth Youth Games, with eight countries taking part in the inaugural competition.

The competition will take place as a FAST5 format, which is shorter version of the game played with only five players, rather than the traditional seven. FAST5 features multiple point shots, double point power plays and shortened quarters creating an exciting spectator experience with the potential for unpredictable results.

Team England

In July, ten players were named in the Team England side alongside four reserves.
