David Armstrong

We recently welcomed David Armstrong to fill a casual vacancy on its Board. David’s appointment will further strengthen the Board’s commercial skills and governance capabilities.

The Board, which is responsible for overseeing England Netball’s strategies, policies and business management, is comprised of a mixture of Nominated and Independent Non-Executive Directors from different backgrounds.

David Armstrong, has an impressive commercial background having held senior positions at organisations such as PepsiCo, Diageo Plc, Compass Group, Lonrho PLC and Wasps Holdings where he founded the successful Wasps Netball franchise. David joins the Board with a broad range of experience across different sectors, from leisure and retail, to consumer brands and real estate.

David is currently CEO of the Racecourse Association, one of the tripartite bodies leading British Horseracing and sits on the Board of the British Horseracing Authority. He is also Non-Executive Chair of the national governing body of Modern Pentathlon. He was an independent panel member for UK Sport and was previously a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the successful World Athletics Championships 2017.

David commented: “I have spent many years working in the sport sector and to have been given the opportunity to get more involved in netball is very exciting. Since my involvement with Wasps I have become an avid fan of the sport and so I relish the chance to continue my involvement. Netball has been on a huge upwards trajectory since the England team’s success at the Commonwealth Games and the Vitality Netball World Cup, and I’m delighted to be a part of its continued growth.

“England Netball has been working relentlessly behind the scenes to maximise on the momentum that those recent tournaments have brought, delivering exciting programmes, competitions, education and training to allow people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to participate in the sport.

“I’m very much looking forward to being able to input into netball’s journey and strategies going forward.”
