2018: A golden year for the Vitality Roses

The Vitality Roses scooped not one but two awards – Team of the Year and Greatest Sporting Moment (as voted for by the public) – in the space of just two minutes at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2018 ceremony.

Tracey Neville’s side wrote their names into the nation’s sporting history once again after fighting off fierce competition from other incredibly talented and deserving nominees to win the accolades.

2018 has been an unbelievable year for the Roses with some hugely significant milestones, including that nail-biting Commonwealth Games victory over world champions and home favourites Australia.

January

Best-ever Quad Series finish – silver

First win vs. New Zealand at a major competition – England 54-45 New Zealand

First major final – beat Jamaica 56-55 in the semi-final

First victory over Australia since 2013 – England 52-51 Australia

Up to second in the International Netball Federation World Rankings – the first time the top two spots on the international ladder haven’t been occupied by Australia and New Zealand since the introduction of the system in 2008
