Jo Harten vs Samoa

After an exciting and busy four year cycle for England’s Jo Harten and Geva Mentor, both players have announced that they will be taking a six month break from the full time Roses programme.

Harten and Mentor plan to return to play in the Suncorp Super Netball league in 2020 after their short time away from the court.

Jess Thirlby, Head Coach of the Vitality Roses, said: “It has been a whirlwind four years for Geva and Jo; they both were pivotal in England’s victory at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and were a part of the team that secured bronze at the Vitality Netball World Cup in July.

“After an exciting home World Cup, both players went straight back into competing in the Suncorp Super Netball league which has now come to an end, so we fully appreciate their desire to take an extended break before starting the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season. It is very common in many sports for more mature athletes to take a break after multiple international cycles so we expected a few players to come to this decision, which we fully support.

“It won’t be long until we will see both of these fantastic athletes back out on court again for England, but in the meantime we look forward to having their support from the sidelines as we prepare for our upcoming international series in South Africa.”
