The 2018 National Clubs U16 Finals came to an exciting close on Sunday afternoon as Turnford staged a second-half comeback to beat Oldham 33-29.

Oldham took a perfect record into the final showdown but it was Turnford who made the brighter start and led 6-4 at the end of the first quarter.

The North West regional runners-up turned the game in their favour though and were 14-11 up at half-time.

As the final 15 minutes of the match got underway, just one goal separated the two sides with Oldham 22-21 in front.

The teams were showing their class and the crowd were on tenterhooks as the score was tied at 26-all in Q4.

A great turnover from Turnford saw them pull ahead to 28-26 and they never looked back, sealing a 33-29 win and the 2018 title.

Charnwood Rutland finished in third place after recording a 32-23 win against last year’s runners-up Eagles.

Bury YWCA completed the top five after securing a narrow 23-19 victory over Leeds in their play-off encounter.

Oaksway ended the weekend in style by beating Weston Park Blades 35-23 to claim 7th place.

A solid 9th place finish was in store for Grasshoppers NC as they took a dramatic 27-26 victory over Crystal Palace NC while Hucclecote clinched 11th position with a 37-21 success against Huddersfield.

A fabulous match-up saw Saints Cornwall take 13th position after a nail-biting 27-26 win over Norfolk United NC.

It was a good end to the tournament for Henley as a 23-20 victory against Ryland gave them 15th place, while Grangetown kept their composure in their closely-fought play-off clash to seal 17th place with a 22-20 win against Cliftonettes.
