Hear from Yvonne, England Netball Development Community Coach and Club Head Coach of her experience of Make the Game LIVErpool and how the coaching conference has inspired her to take her learning back into her own coaching environment and continue to help players achieve their goals…

“I, like everyone else, was so excited about the prospect of the Netball World Cup in Liverpool but also the opportunity to meet and learn from some of the best coaches in the country, indeed in the world. I’m always interested in growing my knowledge as you can never know enough, so the chance to meet other coaches at all levels and share our experiences was not to be missed! Being able to help players to achieve their goals in Netball is central to my personal reasons for being able to give back, through coaching, to our wonderful sport so Make the Game LIVErpool was a must for me.

“I really enjoyed the format of the day, from the venue seating to the pod session with Wasps Head Coach, Mel Mansfield and hearing from the keynote speaker, Karen Brown MBE, about the culture developed amongst the Team GB Hockey Team and their journey to success, it was really fascinating. Moving on to the excellent workshops which asked us to consider different aspects of coaching such as practice design, decision making, momentum shifts during games was really stimulating, it definitely inspired me to reflect on my current coaching practice.

“The real icing on the cake was to hear from the panel of world renowned coaches during the Q & A session and their insights on a wide range of topics, it was good to know that some of the things we face as grassroots coaches have been faced by them at varying levels of netball and their approaches to those issues. What l learned most of all is that as a lead/head coach, the direction of any team or club comes from the top and how important it is to be open, honest and fair.

“I met coaches from the UK and beyond and it was so interesting to hear about their coaching experiences. I must admit l did a bit of fangirling and managed to snatch a few photos with the legendary coach, Norma Plummer as well the inspirational Netball athlete, Peace Proscovia. I had a fantastic day at Make the Game LIVErpool and can’t wait to get back to start putting some of what I’ve learned into practice.”

A huge thank you to Yvonne for sharing her experience of Make the Game LIVErpool with us!
