England Netball appoint new Board Director

Michael Bourne, LTA Performance Director, is joining the England Netball Board as an Independent Board Director commencing his appointment on 24th November 2022, providing valuable expertise relating to elite performance to the organisation’s leadership team.

With significant senior leadership experience, Michael has played key roles in the ECB, UK Sport and now the LTA gaining broad experience of the many functions that support effective elite sporting environments. Michael was previously a member of the Comic Relief Impact and Investment committee responsible for monitoring the grants issued by the charity.

The England Netball Board, which is responsible for overseeing England Netball’s strategies, policies and business management, is comprised of a mixture of Nominated and Independent Non-Executive Directors from different backgrounds. Michael’s appointment will strengthen the existing Board’s skillset, particularly in relation to elite sport and the development of high performing environments.

Speaking on his appointment, Michael Bourne said: “I am very excited to join the England Netball Board and contribute to the delivery of the Adventure Strategy. I believe that Netball can play an important role in our communities through many different channels and I look forward to contributing my experiences and expertise to maximise the impact that Netball can have.”

David Armstrong, Chair of the England Netball Board, added: “I am delighted to welcome Michael to the England Netball Board.  His broad range of experience in elite sport will bring significant support to David Parsons and the performance team as well as enabling him to add value right across the Board agenda. I was fortunate to work with Michael previously while he was at UK Sport and I know he will make a major contribution to England Netball”
