NETBALLHer One Year On: Jess Thirlby's Story

Taken during the Netball Super League match between Cardiff Dragons and London Pulse at the House of Sport, Cardiff, Wales on 30th March 2024

Over the past year, NETBALLHer has helped to drive vital conversations about female health amongst women and girls at all life stages.

Proudly leading the way as the first NGB to fully embed female health at every level, NETBALLHer has created an important cultural shift within the Netball Family.

England Netball staff, coaches, officials, volunteers and players across the country have embraced and embedded the NETBALLHer ethos and learnings into their netball clubs, leagues and community programmes.

Having been inspired herself by the stories shared through NETBALLHer, Vitality Roses Head Coach Jess Thirlby sat down with Katharine Merry for a candid and wide-ranging conversation.

Here she discusses her experience of miscarriage, motherhood and seeing her young daughter thrive in a netball environment, all the strong, empowering women she’s surrounded and empowered by, and the impact of the industry-leading women’s health initiative.

Building on the foundations that the NETBALLHer website has created, the NETBALLHer Learning Offer, created in partnership with The Well HQ, is a free online learning opportunity designed to exclusively empower our over 18 and secondary school group members with a comprehensive understanding of female health in netball.

It aims to take eligible members’ learning around female health one step further, teaching them how to practically enhance their own netball experiences during key life stages, as well as those of other women and girls.
