'Roses Down Under' - Fisher's Southern Steel book ANZ Premiership finals place

Round 11 of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) took place over the weekend, with the ANZ Premiership entering its 14th round, and there were plenty of Vitality Roses involved across both competitions Down Under.

An impressive second-half display saw Collingwood Magpies come from behind to defeat local rivals Melbourne Vixens 52-48 on Saturday.

Aided by Geva Mentor’s seven gains and four rebounds, the Magpies ended of a run of three straight losses and claimed another derby win.

A crucial intervention by Jo Harten helped GIANTS Netball to a 59-55 success against NSW Swifts as they climbed above their opponents into top spot.

Helen Housby and Nat Haythornthwaite combined to good effect for the Swifts, but the two ‘Super Shots’ by Harten in the third quarter tilted the game in GIANTS favour after the score was level at halftime.

West Coast Fever produced a destructive performance to earn their first win in three outings as they overcame Adelaide Thunderbirds 69-44.

Stacey Francis-Bayman’s side lost big games in succession against NSW Swifts and Sunshine Coast Lightning respectively, so a response was needed and they provided it despite trailing after the opening 15 minutes.

In the ANZ Premiership, Southern Steel secured their place in the Finals Series with a thrilling 46-45 victory at Northern Stars on Monday.

George Fisher showed remarkable composure in a tight contest as she missed just one of her 34 shots to steer Steel to a narrow win.
