England Netball joins forces with the British Army

We are pleased to announce that the British Army has teamed up with England Netball offering support across both a grassroots and elite level.

The British Army, which uses sport to enhance the physical, mental and environmental preparedness of its personnel, has joined the netball family in the hope of connecting with a wider audience of young people, particularly females who it has found often know the least about the opportunities within the Army.

Through outreach and engagement activity at England Netball events, the Army hopes to further inform young people about what the Army stands for, its career opportunities, and the sport and education it provides.

Joanne Sinclair, Commercial Director at England Netball, said: “We’re really excited to be teaming up with the British Army and working together on some new and innovative ways to engage with our female audience to help spread the word on the fantastic opportunities the British Army has to offer.

“We share strong synergies, Netball is the ultimate team sport as no single player can go everywhere on court and the Army is the ultimate team career. Sport is also a huge part of the Army as it encourages teamwork, communication, physical fitness and commitment, which are all key elements required for netball.”

Back in April 2018, the Vitality Roses made history by winning gold at the Commonwealth Games against home favourites Australia with a 52-51 win. Since then the Vitality Roses also secured the Team of the Year and Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards in December.

Joanne added: “It’s going to be another incredible year for the Vitality Roses as we are rapidly approaching the Vitality Netball World Cup, which takes place in July, so it’s the perfect time for the British Army to come on board to see how this wonderful sport is growing.”

Major General Duncan Capps, General Officer Commanding Regional Command is the Chairman of the Army Sports Control Board and will be attending the Vitality Netball International Series, as part of the Netball Quad Series, on 20 January.

Major General Duncan Capps said: “England Netball demonstrate all the qualities of teamwork, determination and physical fitness that are also qualities hugely important to us in the Army. Sport and teamwork play a vital role in developing our people so we are very proud to build these links with the 2018 Team of the Year – England Netball.”
