Government lockdown and what this means for community netball

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 4 January, which confirmed new national lockdown restrictions being introduced across England, all community netball will remain suspended until further notice. This includes clubs, leagues, local pathway activity and all England Netball programmes such as Back to Netball and Walking Netball.

Organised outdoor netball for disabled people and activity operating as part of the elite sport framework are however permitted to continue.

We are hugely grateful to all the volunteers across the country who have continued to adapt plans in line with Government guidance and who have already supported the re-start of netball. We were delighted that the Netball Family got to enjoy some netball during the autumn last year and we are grateful for all the work our volunteers did to make that happen.

Behind the scenes we are continuing to prepare once again for the return of community netball, and this time we hope that some of the processes and risk mitigations will be more familiar for our volunteers, having used them throughout the autumn. Going forward, we will continue to update our website and guidance as we know more, communicate with committees including COVID-19 Officers and run forums to support them, their netball organisations, Coaches and Officials in preparing for the full return of our sport.

We thank you for your ongoing support, understanding and efforts during such an incredibly challenging period for all. We are so grateful to have your support and will continue to do all that we can to support you – and the sport – during the pandemic, and beyond.

As part of the #SaveOurSports campaign, we have teamed up with other sport organisations across the UK to sign a ‘New Year’s resolution’ to ensure sport is put at the heart of the COVID-19 recovery in 2021.

We will always be ‘here if you need’, and together, we will ensure netball comes back stronger.

England Netball members

Members, remember that throughout the pandemic, the Virtual Netball Club (VNC) has continued to provide you with exclusive content aimed at keeping you fit, active and connected to our sport. Whether you are U11 or a Walking Netballer, there’s something for everyone with a hub of activities, exclusive interviews with some of your favourite players and more!

And if you’re training in your lounge, bedroom or garden, all the practises and skills learnt during the sessions can be applied once we are back out on the netball court. The VNC is one of many great membership benefits, click here for more information on member benefits.
